An Adventurer's Investing Heaven

Puerto Varas is located in the southern Chilean province of Llanquihue in the Los Lagos region. The city's 33,000 residents have seen the area grow to become a popular tourist destination offering a variety of adventure opportunities, picturesque countryside, and German infrastructure and traditions left behind by the areas original settlers.
A new railway, rafting expeditions, and volcano trekking are just a few factors that attract both local and foreign tourists to this popular, scenic town. Visitors enjoy 4-star hotels, a variety of restaurants, gambling, volcanic sand beaches, and numerous outdoor adventures.
The Los Lagos region's economy is dominated by the fishing, tourism, and hospitality industries. As a vacation destination, the Puerto Varas tourism industry expands 15% annually. Meanwhile, the fishing industry contributes 80% of Chile's salmon output, creating appeal for direct and indirect industries to set up offices in the region.

Already a popular tourist destination, Puerto Varas' economy is geared much more toward the adventure enthusiast. However, the city's opportunities for investing have potential for growth. There are a number of fishery stocks with operations in the area, like Invertec Pesquera Mar de Chiloe S.A., Pes quera San José S.A., and Pesquera Itata S.A., all trading on the Santiago stock exchange... But none are located in Puerto Varas, which is located just north of prime commercial fishing areas.
One option: look at V.F. Corporation (VFC:NYSE), owners of The North Face brand, the outdoor gear and apparel retailer. VFC has a North Face store in Puerto Varas. It's one of nine individual stores in the country, not including all the department stores that carry the brand. VFC also owns the Eagle Creek brand, a luggage and bag retailer with several outlets in Chile, including one in Puerto Montt, about 19 miles southwest of Puerto Varas.
