Get to Know Kent LucasWhat is a hot sector for 2009? Capital Goods/Basic Industry sectors. What is one thing an investor should consider when picking a stock? “Buy Straw Hats in the Winter.” This is one of my favorite investment proverbs, confirming a simple but critical contrarian view. You find the best deals on bikinis and swim trunks (and straw hats) in the dead of winter in the back section of the clothing store — at 50% off! What do you like to do in your free time? As a born and bred New Yorker I love visiting the city to get a taste of the best in culture, cuisine and the New York Mets. I like to spend my time between San Francisco and the Lake Tahoe area, where I love the region’s amazing and very accessible outdoor attractions. I also enjoy art, reading business non-fiction, playing and watching most sports. What profession other than yours would you like to attempt? Teacher. Recently I explored this desire for teaching and spent a semester in India as a graduate level business lecturer. I’ve also tutored inner-city kids in Oakland, CA and consulted for a San Francisco based non-profit. |
