Yesterday was a lovely day for me.
I was asked to speak at the Community College of Baltimore County for a group called SIFE, which stands for Students In Free Enterprise. I first spoke at the Catonsville Campus, and it was like coming home.
I practically grew up on that campus. My mother is a teacher there, and I've spent countless years in daycare and summer camps. I know the paths in the surrounding woods like the back of my hand.
I was honored to be introduced by my old business teacher, Mr. Larry Aaronson. All the teachers there were like family to me, and I reconnected with people I haven't seen for 12 years. Needless to say, I wanted to impress everyone.
But I was really surprised at how the students who attended this personal finance day were connected with today's issues and the financial markets. I was duely impressed.
Turns out, I had the unfortunate luck of speaking just before lunch.
We weren't sure how many students were going to stay for the whole thing... But they did. It was a small room, but it was packed, with people standing on the sides, too. And at the end, the students asked very good questions, like how the missile defense shield will affect Poland's relationship with the rest of the world.
They were on top of things.
In all, I had a lovely time, even though I still get nervous speaking in front of crowds. And today, I get to do it all over again on the Essex Campus of the Community College of Baltimore County.
This is a much bigger room, though... A lecture hall. So wish me luck.
