The "Little Differences" Aren't Always so Little

E-mail Print

In many ways, globalization has made the world feel small. When an important country sneezes, the economists tell us, the other countries around it catch cold.

But that isn’t always so true anymore.

In the past, investors had a tendency to view “emerging markets” as a sort of amorphous blob. An emerging market was just an emerging market. They saw little value in the differences between, say, Argentina and Chile… or Poland and the Czech Republic… or China and the whole of Asia beyond Japan.

Now, though, we are beginning to see that the little differences aren’t always so little. Sometimes they mean everything.

Sara Nunnally, our globetrotting emerging markets analyst, has found just such an example. While the world grimaces over the Tibetan crackdown, Sara is preparing for an important trip to Asia. She’s getting ready to immerse herself in the hustle and bustle of Vietnam and Singapore, where opportunities abound, regardless of the China / Tibet headlines. Take a look.

Warm Regards,

JL
